About the Presenter

Dr. Steven P. Moysey is an internationally recognized expert in the field of conflict and crisis negotiation, counter-intelligence, and counter-terrorism, with a specialization in the area of armed barricade standoff situations. Dr. Moysey’s ongoing research and writing pays particular attention to hostage standoff situations and trends in international terrorism. His earlier work on the Balcombe Street siege and the Iranian Embassy siege in London has appeared internationally in the Journal of Police Crisis Negotiations (Haworth Press). His last documentary book on the Irish Republican Army terror campaign in London and subsequent hostage standoff (The Road to Balcombe Street, Taylor and Francis), has become a standard reference work for many conflict and crisis training programs around the world.

Dr. Moysey has been a guest lecturer at several hostage negotiation workshops in both the U.K. and the U.S. As an internationally recognized expert in the field of crisis negotiations, Dr. Moysey has been interviewed on the BBC television news, CNN, ABC, and several print media outlets, including The Guardian, The Times, and the Daily Telegraph. He has assisted several major city police departments with their hostage negotiation programs, and has served as a technical advisor to Hollywood on hostage- related movie projects.

Dr. Moysey is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Society for Police and Criminal Psychology, and the International Association for Counterterrorism and Security Professionals. He also serves on the advisory panels of several Washington, D.C. counter-terrorism think-tanks. He holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering, an M.S. in management from Tufts University, and a Ph.D., with a focus on conflict and crisis negotiation, also from Tufts. He was an adjunct faculty member at the graduate school at Tufts University for several years, where he taught subjects that included negotiation and group psychology
