The Carol Walsh Memorial Blood Drive was instituted by faculty and students of the Becker College nursing program to honor former Becker College Nursing Professor Carol Walsh, who taught from 1983 to 2000. Professor Walsh died of cancer in 2006.
During her cancer treatment, Professor Walsh needed a lot of blood. Professor Margaret McNeil’s continuing gift in her memory is this annual blood drive. On the day of the blood drive, she asks those who knew Professor Walsh and those who didn’t to honor the memory of this great lady by donating blood. The entire day will be staffed by nursing faculty volunteers and her beloved students.
Professor McNeil explains the devotion for her that lives on: “Carol contributed much to the nursing program over the years by serving as acting director of nursing, developing curriculum, and assisting me with starting the Nursing Club. The many nursing alumni and faculty remember Carol well as an inspirational presence in the nursing program and for her contributions to the College at large.”
Professor McNeil adds, “When I came here in 1988, Carol was a great mentor, colleague, and friend. In 2006, her cancer returned with a vengeance, and she died with dignity cared for by her beloved Becker nursing grads and surrounded by family, friends, and Becker faculty.”
