Charles “Chuck” Roche grew up in Leicester, Mass. And attended St. Peter’s High School where he was more engaged as a basketball player than as a student. He tells the story, “I was hanging around Beacon Pharmacy in downtown Leicester when Paige Rowden pulls up and says, ‘Chucky, what are you doing in the fall?’ I replied that I was thinking about going to college but that I had no definite plans. He asked me if I’d like to attend Leicester Jr. College. I said ‘sure’ so right then he took me to the college and enrolled me.
“Paige Rowden had a significant impact on my life because my experience at Leicester Junior was transformational. I can remember that the classroom was competitive. They posted our test scores for everyone to see, and I didn’t want to be in the middle of the pack. So, I worked hard and made the Dean’s List. My accomplishments in the classroom and on the basketball court gave me confidence and helped me believe that I could achieve anything that I set my mind to.”
Today, Chuck is CEO of Linx, Ltd., a manufacturer of valves, fittings and fire hydrants, in the water management industry. They also produce brass fittings for the plumbing industry. Linx corporate headquarters are located in Newport, R.I., and they operate manufacturing plants in China.
Chuck has made two gifts in support of the Paige Rowden Endowed Scholarship Fund and feels a debt of gratitude to Paige Rowden and Leicester Junior College. “Paige saw value in me and the college provided a challenging environment where I could grow and mature as a young man. I am proud to support this scholarship which will continue to provide opportunities for future generations of young people.”
