Garrett became Director of Libraries at Becker in the summer of 2011. He commits to and aligns the libraries’ work to student success and enhancing the student experience. At Becker, he’s served on the curriculum committee and the teaching and learning subcommittee of Becker’s Global Citizenship iLab. He’s also active in the Associated and Research Collaborative (ARC) network of libraries, and our local chapter of the Association of College and Research Libraries(ACRL,) particularly the Leadership Development Group.

Previously, Garrett held the position of Librarian in the Rowland Institute at Harvard University and also worked in the MIT library system. He has also worked in public libraries and consulted for non-profit organizations. He holds an M.L.S. from Simmons College and a B.A. from Kenyon College. His areas of expertise include library services to students and faculty, information sources, scholarly communication, library teaching, and library leadership and administration.  His conference and workshop presentations have covered topics including weblogs and social media, open access publishing, Web 2.0, academic science libraries, information literacy, and copyright and fair use.

Born in Boston and raised in Lexington, Massachusetts, Garrett resides in Waltham, Mass. with Cassie, his spouse and five cats. He has two teenage children and an adult stepdaughter. Interests include poetry, gardening, music of all kinds, local history and personal development.
