The Ruska and Swan libraries offer a wide range of electronic information resources to the Becker College community.

Use the library catalog to search for books, DVDs, reserve materials, etc. that make up the holdings of both Ruska and Swan Libraries. You can search by author, title, keyword, and subject and limit searches to a specific campus or collection (i.e. juvenile books, media, etc.).

Video platform that allows educational films to be streamed, emailed, or embedded into Angel. Contains films in the Master Academic Collection (humanities, social science, business and economics, science, and health collections) and the Career & Technical Education Master Collection (family and consumer sciences, guidance and counseling, technical education, and careers and job search collections).

» Gale: InfoTrac

Provides access to more than 50 databases and contains full text of thousands of periodicals covering topics in various disciplines including history, literature, social science, science, health, business, and technology.

» Gale: Opposing Viewpoints in Context

Covers today’s social issues, from offshore drilling to climate change, health care to immigration.  Contains more than 14,000 pro/con viewpoint articles on a broad variety of topics.

» Gale: Global Issues in Context

Offers international viewpoints on a broad spectrum of global issues, topics, and current events,  including the social, political, military, economic, environmental, health, and cultural  arenas.

» ProQuest: Central

Accesses more than 8,000 full-text articles in multiple subject disciplines such as business, criminal justice, education, social science, medical science, and technology.

Includes full-text newspaper articles from 14 Massachusetts newspapers such as The Boston Globe, The Boston Herald, and The Worcester Telegram & Gazette.

Combines two market-research databases, Business Insights and Marketline.  Provides company and country profiles and market-research reports on various industries including energy, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and technology.

» Gale: Business Economics & Theory

Contains more than 150 full-text journals articles that focus on business and economic theory.

» ProQuest: Business

Searches across all ProQuest business-related databases, including ABI/INFORM, Hoover’s Company Profiles, and Snapshots (international marketing profiles).

 Criminal Justice and Legal Studies

» Gale: Criminal Justice Collection

Contains more than 150 full-text journals that focus on criminal justice.  Aimed at those preparing for careers as  a lawyer, law enforcement officer, paralegal, or Homeland Security officer.

» ProQuest: Criminal Justice

Focuses on U.S. and international criminal justice journals, and provides research support for students interested in careers in criminal justice, law enforcement, corrections administration, drug enforcement, rehabilitation, family law, and industrial security.

Contains more than 11,000 critical essays on contemporary authors.  Includes biographical information, listings of principal works, and sources for further study.

Contains plot summaries, synopses, overviews, literary criticism articles and essays, author biographies, book reviews, poems, short stories, and classical texts.

» Gale: Literature Resource Center

Comprises biographical information, overviews, full-text literary criticism, and reviews on more than 130,000 writers in all disciplines, from all time periods, and from around the world.

Game Design

» Games for Health Journal Feb 2012-

Bimonthly peer-reviewed journal dedicated to the development and application of game technology for improving physical and mental health and well-being. Intended for anyone interested in the research and design of health games that integrate well-tested, evidence-based behavioral health strategies to help improve health behaviors and to support the delivery of care.  New journal.  First issue published February 2012.

» Choice Reviews Online Sept 2011-

Online journal that reviews academic books, electronic media, and Internet resources of interest to those in higher education. Used by librarians, faculty, and decision makers for collection development and scholarly research. Each year Choice publishes more than 7,000 reviews.

» EBSCO Library Research Databases

Links to free library research databases offered by EBSCO:

  • LISTA.  Indexes more than 560 core journals in the field of information science.  Coverage includes librarianship, classification, cataloging, bibliometrics, online information retrieval, and information management.
  • European Views of the Americas: 1493 to 1750.  Contains a bibliography of 32,000 entries and is a comprehensive guide to printed records about the Americas written in Europe before 1750.
  • GreenFILE.  Includes content on global warming, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and recycling.  Provides indexing and abstracts for more than 384,000 records, as well as full text for more than 4,700 records.

» Gale: Information Science and Library Issues Collection

Contains more than 100 industry journals for information professionals and knowledge workers covering topics such as information infrastructure, data processing techniques, and metadata architectures.

Explores emotions and how the human mind develops and diminishes over time.  Contains more than 200 full-text psychology periodicals.

Provides coverage of events in U.S. history, as well as current thinking and scholarly work relating to historical events.

Searches across all ProQuest science and technology databases, including ProQuest Science Journals, and ProQuest Biology.

» National Geographic Archives 2005-

Online access to the full text and images of articles published since 2005 in National Geographic.  The lag time from publication to online archives is two months.

» Science 1997-

Online access to the full text of every article published since 1997 in Science, the weekly  journal of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

» Scientific American 1993-

Online access to the full text of every article published since 1993 in Scientific American.

 Veterinary Science

» Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine 2008-

Published by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, articles cover the latest developments in cardiology, neurology, oncology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, hematology, hepatology, immunology, infectious disease, nephrology/urology, nutrition/metabolism, pharmacology, respiratory, theriogenology, epidemiology, and muscle disease relating to large and small animals.  Access full text articles from the past five years.

» ProQuest: Central

Contains full text articles on all aspects of medical science, which includes veterinary science and animal care.

» VETLEARN Website

Use this link to create a free account and receive full access to Compendium and Veterinary Technician, two peer-reviewed, clinical journals for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.  Site also includes client handouts, videos, case studies, news, and practice management.

» NAL Animals & Livestock Website

Links to the National Agricultural Library (NAL) catalog, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.  Contains citations relating to all aspects of agriculture and allied disciplines, including animal and veterinary sciences.  Full text of articles may be available via inter-library loan.
