As a professor of English who teaches creative writing, creative nonfiction, writing about literature, and composition, Dr. M. T. Nezam-Mafi emphasizes the value of good writing—writing that teaches, inspires, and entertains. In the fall of 2010, to acknowledge and reward such writing, he started The Hawk Review, an online publication that highlights students’ creative and expository writing projects nominated by Becker College faculty.
In his classes, which also include Leadership and Literature and Public Speaking, students are encouraged to ask their own questions, rather than simply answer the ones they are asked. In doing so, Dr. Nezam-Mafi strives to help his students develop valuable analytical and problem-solving skills, which will benefit them throughout their educational careers and beyond.
Dr. Nezam-Mafi has taught writing at Brown University, Harvard University, and Boston University. As an author, he specializes in travel literature and has had stories published in numerous literary reviews. Dr. Nezam-Mafi earned his Ph.D. in English from Boston University and his M.A. in creative writing from Brown University.
