He joined the Becker faculty in January of 1965 and is currently the longest-serving member of the faculty. Over his tenure at the College, Professor Deitrick has served on a variety of committees and been part of significant initiatives including his time as a faculty representative on the Becker Board of Trustees.

In the early 1970’s, Professor Deitrick developed some of the first courses in African American literature at the college level in the country and has been teaching the topic ever since. Along with Professor Diane Hendrickson, he started the summer testing program for incoming freshmen and also developed an Exit Essay program as a learning assesment tool at the College.
