Megan chose the Becker College interior design program because she wanted to apply her creativity in a career. “I love that Becker allows students to jump right into the program,” she says. “My professors are there to help whenever needed.”
Like most aspiring interior designers, Megan has her own personal style. “I like to take traditional pieces and add a modern twist,” she explains. “I like pieces to be functional, but also really pop with color.”
Part of becoming a successful interior designer is also learning the technical aspects of a room. When Megan designed a 100-room hotel for one of her classes, she had to ensure it was ADA accessible, with proper placement of elevators, bathrooms, and a specific number of rooms per floor. The project was a test of spatial recognition and understanding of building codes, and Megan hand-drafted every room as well as an attached restaurant.
Megan, who received the Aspiring Scholars Award in Interior Design, has flourished creatively while learning the fundamentals of her craft. She is also captain of the Becker College women’s tennis team, and helped lead the team to three conference championships as the number-one singles player.
After graduation, Megan hopes to work in either Boston or Philadelphia for a small design firm and one day would like to run her own design company. “I want to be involved hands-on, to soak up techniques, and continue to familiarize myself with building laws and codes,” she says.
