Paul David Cotnoir, Ph.D., PE, CMfGE, joined Becker College in 2002 and has served in various capacities, including associate dean of the Centers for Learning and Career Advancement and dean of New Initiatives. Currently he leads Becker College’s interactive media program as director of design programs. Prior to his arrival at Becker College, and building upon his undergraduate and graduate mechanical engineering degrees from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), he held various administrative roles in higher education, industry, and the public sector in the areas of automation, robotics, fiber optics, economic development, and manufacturing design.
Dr. Cotnoir has many achievements, including his role in leading the development and launch of several new Becker College degree programs: game design and game programming (interactive media), the accelerated bachelor of arts in liberal arts, the elementary education concentration, the accelerated RN-to-BSN program, and equine studies and management concentrations. Under his leadership, the Becker College interactive media program has garnered national recognition by the Princeton Review, ranking #1 in New England and # 4 nationally, with enrollments growing exponentially. He is a member of the College’s curriculum committee, has served on a variety of College-wide strategic initiatives and accreditation teams, and has been instrumental in the development of the statewide Mass DiGI initiative.
Dr. Cotnoir earned his doctoral degree in manufacturing engineering in 2010 from WPI, where his doctoral dissertation quantified the vibrational parameters of ambulance travel and correlated those accelerations to patient comfort and safety as well as to crew performance parameters. His current research interests lie within the video game environment—specifically, how real-world data is used to produce instructive computer simulations.
Twenty-eight years of teaching a variety of college courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels has provided Dr. Cotnoir with a laboratory in which he has developed his own personal teaching philosophy. As an educator, he feels that a sense of humor, the ability to project a sense of approachability, and a genuine interest in his students’ learning has served him well.
