Sports Management Concentration

The $200 billion sports industry thrives not only through its athletes, teams, and coaches, but also through those who can oversee multiple components involved in the business of sports. From marketing and public relations to sales, event management, merchandising, and more, there is a high demand for those qualified in sports management in public, private, for-profit, and nonprofit organizations and industries.

The Becker College sports management concentration in the business administration program combines studies on management and marketing fundamentals with course work on sport and recreation needs. Classes focus on business activities such as sales and promotion, accounting, budget preparation, and fund raising, and more.

Hands-on experiences are a vital part of the Becker College sports management concentration, including internship experiences in junior and senior years. These can also be combined with electives, based on specific interests.

Graduates of the Becker College business administration sports management concentration will have an understanding of business and management concepts, as well as competency in fitness, team sports, and individual and lifetime sports.

Learning Outcomes:

Students will critically evaluate a company’s goals, strategy, financial health, competitive position, and commitment to ethical principles and social responsibility, and they will apply management and leadership theories to make recommendations for improvement.

Students will provide evidence of written and oral communication skills through essays, case analyses, exams, presentations, and/or projects.

Students will gain experience in their concentration through an internship, field experience, or a practicum.
