Kayla is passionate about the practice of equine massage therapy, which can help relieve the animal’s tension and muscle spasms, relax the horse’s back and deep muscle tissues to help stimulate muscle growth, and circulate blood to the horse’s muscles.
For Kayla, the practice is therapeutic not only for the horse, but also for others. Her goal is to combine a bachelor’s degree in business administration—equine management concentration, with certificates in both human and equine massage therapy. She would like to work in assisted horse therapy—an idea that stems from Serenity Stables in Spring Hill, Florida, whose mission is to “provide a safe, family-oriented environment to encourage the interest, riding, showing, care, and ownership of horses.” Kayla dreams of one day owning and operating such a facility, and will be pursuing a career in which she is helping others through helping horses.
Kayla is an active Becker College student. She is a member of Habitat for Humanity, vice president of the Student Government Association, a First-Year Experience course assistant, and an orientation leader. She credits Becker College for helping her become a better leader through her interactions with both the administration and students. “The best thing that I have ever done was to become a Hawk,” Kayla says. “This is providing me with the best preparation for my career. The doors have been opening up for me since I started at Becker College as a freshman.”
