Catriona Baker, M.A.

Director, Becker Equestrian Center
Division: Animal Studies

Catriona “Trina” Baker was hired as the director of the Becker College Equestrian Center in Paxton, Mass., and coach of the Hawks equestrian team in 2008. Baker had previously operated Virtual Farm LLC in Concord, Mass., training horses and riders in hunt seat equitation, as well as hunters and jumpers.

She has earned titles at local, state, and regional competitions. Additionally, she competed in college, earning the title of 1987 National Champion and 1988 Reserve Champion at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association’s hunt seat equitation finals. Riding horses has always run simultaneously with her love of art, as Baker is an accomplished artist and her impressive resume reflects years of both equestrian and artistic background. She holds a bachelor's degree from Mount Holyoke College and Maine College of Art, and a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Baker not only leads the Hawks equestrian team, but teaches Introduction to Riding Instruction, a class in which students are required to conduct research and present their findings in written form. The focus of the class goes beyond riding instruction and requires that students consider larger issues. “They have to write about ethics,” she says, “and things such as strategies for training.”
