The Becker College Presidential Speaker Series invites prominent speakers to engage in substantive discourse about the future of the world as it pertains to education, health, sustainability, globalization, and the economy.
Internationally renowned, Nobel Laureate, pioneered the concept of social business, utilizing microfinance to help develop self-sustainable businesses. Professor Yunus established the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh in 1983, fueled by the belief that credit is a fundamental human right.

has been recognized with more than 100 awards from 26 countries, including the Nobel Peace Prize, the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the U.S. Congressional Gold Medal. Most recently, Professor Yunus was ranked number three in Salt
magazine’s Top 100 Compassionate Business Leaders. In 2012, Fortune
magazine named him one of the 12 greatest entrepreneurs of all time. In 2008, in an open online poll, he was voted the second most intellectual person in the world on the list of Top 100 Public Intellectuals by Prospect
magazine (UK). In 2006, Time
magazine listed him under “60 years of Asian Heroes” as one of the top 12 business leaders. He attended Dhaka University in Bangladesh, then received a Fulbright scholarship to study economics at Vanderbilt University. He received his Ph.D. in economics from Vanderbilt in 1969 and became an assistant professor of economics at Middle Tennessee State University. | Share Video Link About the Yunus Social Business Centre @ Becker College On May 28, in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Becker College signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Professor Muhammad Yunus to establish the Yunus Social Business Centre @ Becker College. Becker College is one of a handful of higher education institutions in the world—and the first in the United States—to establish an officially sanctioned Yunus Social Business Centre. The College’s Centre will focus on identifying real-world social problems, creating innovative, self-sustaining solutions to transform lives and communities.
