On any given day, we can see approximately 6,000 devices on the Becker network; this includes employee computers, lab computers, student computers, various game consoles, tablets and smart phones. We use ForeScout to help us identify infected computers and malicious activity so we can keep the networks secure for everyone; we use Sophos for real-time protection to prevent both students and employees from getting infected with the malware and viruses that could bring down the network.
For the 2015/2016 academic year, Becker chose Sophos for the entire college to cut down on both malware and virus infections. We saw increases in malware in residence halls last year; when student machines were infected, it would flood the network with traffic and cause poor network performance for everyone in a residence hall. In an effort to improve everyone’s network experience, we have standardized on Sophos. This should help cut down on malware. If machines do get infected, we will be alerted more quickly to malware infections, and can work with students who have malware infections to remedy the situation.
Since switching to Sophos, we have seen a significant drop in malware.
Sophos is a market leader in Anti-Virus and Threat Management, with more than 100 million users world-wide. They have been in the Magic Quadrant Leader area for the past three years, which is one of the best rankings possible by Gartner, the world's leading information technology research and advisory company.
