The Director of Media Relations and Public Affairs plans, develops, coordinates, and executes strategic media relations and public affairs initiatives for a wide variety of news media—print, online, and broadcast. This position is responsible for promoting a consistent, positive, and unified image of the College that serves to enhance and broaden awareness for the College, its people, and its achievements; establishes and strengthens local, regional, national, and international exposure for the College; and supports the College’s mission and strategic initiatives.
A Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, and/or a related field; five years of demonstrated experience with all elements of communications (web/social media, press, publications, external relations, events) and cutting edge expertise in at least one; demonstrated experience placing stories in national media; experience using appropriate tools and metrics to measure the effectiveness of media and public affairs initiatives; experience working with higher education industry analysts to facilitate briefings and educational events and with external relations cultivating stakeholders, partners’ and audiences (including development and management of various lists); exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills; attention to detail and mastery of the rules of grammar; and, familiarity with both the Associated Press and Chicago Manual styles required. Exceptional communications skills (both verbal and written); strong attention to detail, good aesthetic judgment, and a passion for fact-checking, researching, and organizing information; the capability of working well under pressure; adapting easily to changing circumstances in a fast paced environment; a creative approach to problem solving; experience as a media representative for higher education institutions and familiarity with sensitive College issues; the ability to manage multiple demands and projects simultaneously; the ability to represent the College in public venues, and, knowledge and/or experience in photography and videography desired. The ideal candidate must be a strategic thinker who excels at advancing original ideas and has the ability to execute.
The Department of Criminal Justice and Legal Studies seeks to fill a full-time faculty position in the Criminal Justice Program, starting August 2012.
Successful candidates will have an earned Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Forensic Science or Biology with relevant work experiences in forensic science/crime scene processing applications. Other specialization areas that may be considered include:

The Database and Research Coordinator is responsible for the management and support of the Raiser’s Edge database by responding to information and user needs as well as providing analysis and measurement. The Coordinator manages the gift and acknowledgement process which includes receiving, coding, tracking and depositing gifts, entering information in the Raiser’s Edge database, ensuring that all financial information is accurate, reporting gifts to staff and coordinating acknowledgements. The position assumes responsibility for reconciling charitable contributions and pledges with the College’s accounting records, for conducting on-line research concerning individual and foundation prospects, and providing profiles to gifts officers. The ability to handle confidential information and work as part of a team with all levels of staff is expected.
An undergraduate degree and three years’ experience working with Raiser’s Edge or similar database software required. Proficiency with MS Office including Word, Excel and Outlook, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, the ability to work as a team player, strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail with an ability to evaluate and respond to changing priorities, ability to conduct electronic database research and produce concise summaries, ability to match foundation priorities with those of the College, and, a valid driver’s license desired. Research experience and knowledge of fund-raising best practices a plus. Background screening including driving record is necessary.
Reporting to the President, the Vice-President of Student Affairs oversees the development of strategies that support the curricular and co-curricular priorities for the College, including Orientation for first year students. The VP supervises eight departments – Residential Life, Student Activities, Health Services, Counseling Services, Athletics, Campus Police, Food Service and Career Services. Responsibilities include provide institutional leadership on student development and leadership and direction to department and staff within the division; initiating and approving student and administrative policy and programmatic changes related to students; maintaining overall authority and control of department budgets; serving as the liaison to the College attorney regarding student issues and as the FERPA resource for student records; providing leadership and assessment of transition programs for undergraduate students; collaborating with staff in Academic Affairs to develop, implement, and assess specific programs such as First Year Experience and advising systems; serving on various standing and ad-hoc committees; serving as the resource for undergraduate student concerns regarding sexual harassment issues as noted in the Handbook; acting as the speaker host and panelist for student recruitment events in collaboration with the VP Enrollment Management; providing leadership programs for student leader training programs; and, serving as the on-call administrator for the College responding to emergency and crisis situations.
A master’s degree required. An earned doctorate, 10-15 years of experience in higher education, strong written and oral communication skills , excellent financial, presentation and supervisory skills, ability to facilitate crisis intervention procedures, ability to work late evenings and weekends and to travel on and off campus, and, active participation in national student affairs associations preferred.

Reporting to the vice president of academic affairs, the dean of the Becker College School of Animal Studies will be responsible for the already strong programs in veterinary sciences, animal care, laboratory animal management, and equine studies; strengthening community and regional partnerships; and formulating and implementing strategies for program expansion and identifying new opportunities for growth. This position has been designated as the Allerton Chair of Animal Health Sciences.
Qualifications include a D.V.M. or Ph.D. in an animal studies related field with a minimum of five years of experience in higher education; a demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies, including senior administrators, faculty, staff, community partners, and funding sources; a commitment to innovation in managing and developing academic programs; a demonstrated ability in evaluation methodology, data collection and analysis, market research, and program development; experience in managing program accreditation efforts and fostering a “culture of evidence and assessment” across the College; a demonstrated ability to gather data from a variety of sources, synthesize and summarize the information, and translate into sound recommendations and action plans; strong written and oral communication skills; and experience in managing multiple tasks in a dynamic and time-sensitive environment.
