Admissions: Office Assistant and Student Ambassador Positions Available

Office Assistant: Assist with mailings, file set up, special projects, and general office duties.

Student Ambassador: Energetic students who have a serious work ethic and can represent Becker College in a professional manner to future students should apply. This position is fun work that involves assisting the office in all duties to recruit the next class of Becker College students. NOTE: This position is a great resume builder.

Student ambassadors can expect to:

  • Give daily tours and some Saturday tours
  • Give tours during special recruiting events (Open House, Accepted Student Day)
  • Assist students through our tele-counseling program during some weekday nights
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Expectations:

  • Show up on time when you are scheduled to work
  • Be comfortable speaking in public and conversing with medium-size groups is a must
  • Have an understanding of and familiarity with the College
  • Represent the College professionally and with enthusiasm

Dress Code: Student ambassadors represent Becker College to prospective students and their families. Appropriate dress is required. If ambassadors are not wearing Becker College apparel, they will be given Becker clothing to wear during the tour.

Athletics: Variety of Positions Available

The athletics department has an ongoing need for work study students. Positions include:

  • Open Gym Attendant: Supervise the gym during the “open” gym hours
  • Athletics Game Day Management: Assist with game-day set up, operate the scoreboard, serve as a ball retriever, keep game statistics, serve as linesman, set up/break down the gym, and film home games
  • Office Assistant: Assist with the day-to-day operations of the athletic department, including typing, filing, and mailing
  • Sports Information Assistant: Assist the sports information director in the day-to-day operations of the sports information office; compile statistics, update the website, and write stories
  • Team Manager: Keep score for home games
  • Training Assistant: Assist with game/practice set up, deliver water, and operate a golf cart

Barn: Barn Assistant (in Paxton)

First Year Experience: Student Assistant

Qualifications:

  • Must have completed at least 30 course credits at Becker College (sophomore credit standing)
  • Outgoing personality, with good communication skills
  • Understanding of the challenges and issues facing a first-year student
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Good organizational skills

Job Duties:

  • Attend most of the FYE trips, which may occur in the evening or on weekends
  • Assist with trip management, including taking attendance and accompanying students on trip/tour
  • Enter trip data and tracking attendance in Excel
  • Maintain correspondence with first-year students regarding FYE trips
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Student Activities: Activities/Office Assistant, Van Driver

A variety of options are available, including: creating and hanging posters, putting weekly events flyers under student doors, helping with events, performing general office duties, uploading pictures to the yearbook website, and driving the campus shuttle van for student events (must have a current driver’s license to drive the van).

Swan Library: Work Study Assistant

Greet patrons, check materials in and out, shelve returned items, process periodicals, and perform clerical assistance as needed. Complete training provided; no experience necessary. Operating hours for the Swan Library are: 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., Monday - Thursday; 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Friday; and 2:00 - 6:00 p.m., Sunday. Two hours are allowed per shift; three shifts are allowed per week. Please notify Pamela Graham between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to arrange a brief interview. All students selected are required to attend a mandatory training scheduled on Tuesday, September 6, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the library.

Veterinary Clinic: Kennel Attendant, Grooming Assistant, and Clinical Assistant Positions

NOTE: These positions are for animal science students only.

Kennel Attendant: The kennel is located in the on-campus veterinary clinic on the Leicester Campus. Kennel work study students will care for the resident teaching dogs and cats. This position includes walking, exercising, and socializing teaching animals; observation and record keeping of animal health and behavior; cleaning animal runs and cages; completing daily and weekly kennel maintenance tasks; and ensuring USDA facility and animal care standards. This position requires some night, weekend, and holiday hours.

Grooming Assistant: Admit/discharge grooming pets, assist with pet handling/grooming, and perform general cleaning and equipment maintenance. Must have Tuesday and/or Thursday availability.

Clinical Assistant: Assist in all aspects of our on-campus veterinary clinic. Duties include but are not limited to: reception, record keeping/filing, cage cleaning, light housekeeping, dog walking, and pet restraint. This position does not require weekend or holiday hours.

Applications can be obtained from Monday, August 29, through Tuesday, September 6, 2011, from 8:15 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the vet clinic reception area in the Lenfest Animal Health Center. Please bring evidence of work study acceptance through the Office of Financial Aid and a current class schedule. Students are added to our work study program on a first-come basis.
