Show your colleagues what you’re made of—and get some exercise while you’re at it! All walkers will combine their steps and walk from Cooperstown, New York to Phoenix, Arizona and visit sports venues across the United States. The challenge will continue for four weeks. Every step counts: steps on your walks at lunch, after work, on weekends, while you work out, or mow the lawn. You’ll be able to log your steps each week on the website, and you will see a running tally of each team’s progress.
Everyone who joins will be on a team. Teams should consist of five people and each participant will receive a t-shirt and a pedometer.
Just walk as much as you can and log in all of your activity for the day. Find work friends and colleagues (employees only) from Becker College who would like to be part of your team. Once you have a team set, register with Steven Bourgault (Worcester Campus) or Patrick Hickey (Leicester Campus). Please see Steve or Pat for your t-shirt and pedometer. The winning team will split the prize.
Teams must register by September 15, 2014.
There are two competitions:
College with the highest number of steps per team
A banner and trophy will be awarded to the college that averages the highest amount of steps walked during the four weeks. Scores will be tallied by taking the total number of steps walked by all participants at the college and dividing that number by the number of teams at the college. (For example, the participants at College X walked a total of 2,000,000 steps and had 10 teams: 2,000,000/10 = 200,000. College X has a final score of 200,000.)
Grand prize: Team with the highest number of steps
The grand prize in the competition will be given to the team that averages the highest number of steps walked during the entire four-week challenge. The winning team will split the value of $500 in gift cards.
Scores will be tallied by taking the total number of steps for each team and dividing that number by the number of people on the team. (For example, Team A at College X walked a total of 300,000 steps and had 5 members: 300,000/5 = 60,000. Team A has a final score of 60,000.)
Team with the highest number of steps at its college
The remaining colleges will each have one winning team. The winning team will be the one that walked the most steps throughout the four-week challenge. This team will split the value of $250 in gift cards!
Scores will be tallied by taking the total number of steps for each team at the college and dividing that number by the number of people on the team. (For example, Team Z at College Y walked a total of 250,000 steps and had 5 members: 250,000/5 = 50,000. Team Z has a final score of 50,000.)
The challenge runs from September 29-October 24 and is generously sponsored by Fallon Community Health Plan.
As Becker College prepares for the Road Bowl Walking Challenge, we would like to encourage everyone to start thinking about their teams and motivating others to join or create a team. Last year WPI won the grand prize, and Clark University placed second. Let’s make this Becker’s year! Together there’s nothing we can’t accomplish!
